Artist Statement

Lee Kai Tung, known artistically as Yolee, explores abstract painting, especially impasto painting, as a way to express personal emotions, usually negative feelings like fear and struggle, through the process of making works and applying thick paint on canvas. On the other hand, her photography, which includes digital, analogue, and cyanotype processes, offers a contrasting perspective on the community. As a member of the community and an art student, she thought that the relationship between art and community is indivisible, and, to dive deep into both, she decided to combine them as a new perspective for exploration and research.

As an emotional and sensitive person, Yolee is good at catching tiny feelings, so she creates artworks to capture and express different feelings that happened in her inner world. Besides, she wants to connect with people emotionally by visualizing personal feelings. Sometimes people are too busy studying, working, and surviving, and become emotional numbness. She wishes people could notice their mental world in this fast-paced reality by watching her work.
